The digestive system is the group of organs involved in breaking foods down into chemical components the body can use. It includes the mouth, esophagus (a muscular tube designed to keep stomach contents from coming back up into the throat), stomach, small and large intestines, rectum and anus. Digestive disorders can involve any of these organs and are common among all people. However, HIV and its treatment can present particular challenges.
