| GLOSSARY Cirrhosis
is a disease of the liver caused by chronic damage, where the
normal cells are replaced with fibrous, scar tissue. The damaged
cells are unable to function properly, which places additional
strain on the remaining healthy cells. Cirrhosis is often seen
after long-term alcohol exposure or liver infections.
